Yard maintenance and tree trimming in Palos Verdes and the South Bay

Regular yard maintenance is where Del Mar Landscaping started, in Long Beach in 1993, and we still do it today, along with trimming for large trees like ficus, for homes and commercial properties in Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance and San Pedro.

Trees, views and brush clearance by city

Each city sets its own rules. Checked against city codes and official sources in October 2026. Rules change, so we confirm the details for your lot on the free estimate.

Rancho Palos Verdes views. Under Proposition M, foliage that significantly blocks a neighbor's view can't grow above 16 feet or the roof ridgeline, whichever is lower, so we trim trees and hedges with that in mind.

Rolling Hills Estates views. Neighbor view disputes over trees go through the City's view equity claim process: discussion first, then mediation, arbitration and an advisory opinion.

Palos Verdes Estates trees. Tree removal has its own Palos Verdes Homes Association application and replacement guide, and removing major native vegetation needs a City grading permit.

Brush clearance on the Peninsula. LA County Fire's 2026 notice asks owners to clear or maintain combustible plants such as acacia, cypress, eucalyptus, juniper and pine within 30 feet of a structure, thin vegetation out to 100 feet, and keep dry grass at 3 inches or less.

Brush clearance in San Pedro (Los Angeles). In Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones, LAFD brush clearance applies all year: 200 feet around structures, grass cut to 3 inches, trees over 18 feet limbed up 6 feet from the ground, and wood chips no deeper than 3 inches within 30 feet of the house.

Torrance street trees. Trimming or removing a street tree needs a Public Works permit and a City-approved tree contractor, at the owner's cost, and nothing planted around a parkway tree can be taller than 18 inches.

Long Beach street trees. Planting or trimming a tree in the public right-of-way needs a Long Beach Public Works permit. Parkway planting is limited to groundcover up to 8 inches, shrubs up to 32 inches and street trees.

Questions

Maintenance & tree trimming questions

Do you trim large trees like ficus?

Yes. Trimming large trees such as ficus is part of our maintenance work. Call or text (310) 427-9089.

Can you trim the street tree in my parkway?

It depends on the city. Torrance requires a Public Works permit and a City-approved tree contractor for street trees, and Long Beach requires a Public Works permit ((562) 570-2770) to plant or trim one. We check the rules for your street first, and we take care of the rest of your yard.
