Watering rules by city and water provider

Each city sets its own rules. Checked against city codes and official sources in October 2026. Rules change, so we confirm the details for your lot on the free estimate.

Cal Water (Palos Verdes Peninsula). Cal Water serves Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes and Rolling Hills Estates. It's at Stage 1: no limit on watering days, but no watering between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Torrance. The City's ordinance covers every address, whether the water comes from Torrance Municipal Water or Cal Water. At Level 1: no sprinklers from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., no more than 3 watering days a week, 15 minutes per station, and no watering for 48 hours after measurable rain.

San Pedro (LADWP). Phase 2: odd-numbered addresses water Monday, Wednesday and Friday, even-numbered Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, never from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sprinklers get one 8-minute cycle per station, or two 15-minute cycles with water-saving nozzles. Parkway irrigation needs no permit if the valve is on private property.

Long Beach. For landscapes that need a City landscape permit, overhead watering runs only from 4 p.m. to 9 a.m., at most 10 minutes per station, and permanent parkway irrigation has to be drip or micro-spray with no runoff.
