Artificial turf installation in Palos Verdes and the South Bay

Del Mar Landscaping installs artificial turf (synthetic grass) for homes and businesses in Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills Estates, Torrance and San Pedro: full lawns, backyard putting greens, play areas, and turf strips between pavers and concrete. We are a family landscaping and concrete company, founded in 1993, with a California contractor license (#904584), so the turf and the hardscape around it come from one crew.

Artificial turf rules by city

Each city sets its own rules. Checked against city codes and official sources in October 2026. Rules change, so we confirm the details for your lot on the free estimate.

Rolling Hills Estates. Artificial turf can cover no more than 25% of a front yard or street-facing side yard. It needs a City zone clearance and a product sample, has to be professionally installed and maintained, and isn't allowed in the public right-of-way where there's no sidewalk.

San Pedro (City of Los Angeles). Synthetic turf is allowed in the parkway if it's an approved product, with a Bureau of Engineering A-Permit. Where there are street trees, the Urban Forestry Division has to approve it too.

Long Beach. Artificial turf is fine in a private front yard but not in the parkway, the strip between the sidewalk and the curb. Plans that show turf in a parkway aren't approved at City plan check.

Cities can set limits. California's law that stops cities from banning drought-tolerant landscaping covers living plants only. Since January 2024 it leaves out artificial turf, so your city's rules decide.

No rebate for synthetic grass. SoCal Water$mart's regional turf program, Cal Water's Lawn-to-Garden rebate and Torrance's rebate all pay only for replacing living grass with a water-wise garden; synthetic turf doesn't qualify. If you want a rebate, ask us about a planted garden instead.

Questions

Artificial turf questions

Can you put artificial turf between pavers or stepping stones?

Yes. Turf strips between pavers, stepping pads and concrete are part of what we install, and since we also lay the pavers and pour the concrete, the edges are planned together.

Do you build backyard putting greens?

Yes. We install artificial-turf putting greens as part of a backyard or on their own. Call or text (310) 427-9089 for a free on-site estimate.

Can my HOA stop me from installing artificial turf?

Not outright. California Civil Code 4735 makes HOA rules void if they ban artificial turf or low-water plants. City rules still apply, though: Rolling Hills Estates, for example, limits turf to 25% of a front yard.
